Etsy Studio is open for business!
Etsy Studio is our new market dedicated to craft supplies. It’s loaded with nearly eight million items and also shares original, inspirational DIY tutorials to help you bring your next project to life.
Etsy has been an important craft supply destination for years, but we realised we could do more to make that experience even better. The approximately $44 billion dollar US craft supply industry has largely existed offline until now.* Etsy Studio will be available on desktop and mobile web, and offer a curated shopping experience with a vast range of craft supplies and shoppable tutorials to spark shoppers’ creativity.
At launch, Etsy Studio will have about 70 original craft projects and will add new tutorials each week. Shoppers can discover craft supplies ranging from traditional and vintage craft supplies, to hand-dyed fabrics and hand-carved weaving looms. Whether you’re a master maker or new to DIY, Etsy Studio truly highlights the joy of making.
Over the past 12 months, we’ve interviewed craft supply buyers to create a shopping experience around their specific needs. For example, Etsy Studio allows buyers to search for items using supply-specific filters including color, size, material, and other filter selections like yarn weight. We’ve also added in the ability to pinch and zoom on an item’s images so shoppers can get a closer look — it’s the next best thing to holding the item in your hand. These are just a couple of the many features that we’ve built to bring joy to craft supply buyers.
An added benefit to shopping on Etsy Studio is that many of the sellers are makers themselves and understand the specific needs of craft supply shoppers. Shoppers will be able to directly communicate with sellers by simply starting a conversation to ask more detailed questions about the item or to seek advice on their creative project.
“I remember being so intimidated when I first began jewellery-making — from learning basic skills to finding the materials I needed to begin. Etsy Studio takes that intimidation away, putting creative projects and the materials needed to get started right in front of you. I’m excited at the possibility of someone finding my jewellery materials on this platform and being encouraged to make — whether for fun or to start their own creative business.”

Etsy Studio is more than a market, it’s a destination that celebrates making and brings together shopping and inspiration in a fresh new way. Look out for new projects, new product filters, and a host of other improvements that will make their way into the Etsy Studio buying experience.
Today, we couldn’t be more excited for shoppers to get inspired and #KeepMaking with Etsy Studio.
*The Association of Creative Industries’ 2016 Creative Products Size of the Industry Study. This includes both offline and online sales of creative products in the US and notes that the vast majority of the craft supply buyers currently purchase items in physical stores rather than online, which we believe demonstrates the opportunity in the online market.
